OPHTHALMOLODOULEIA

That is the Service of the Eyes

by

Georg Bartisch

(1535-1606)

Georg Bartisch, a barber-surgeon, can be considered as being the founder of modern ophthalmology. Impressive full page (in this edition we reproduced the hand colored illustrations from Emil Javal´s famous copy in the library of the French Society of Ophthalmology in Paris) woodcuts shows the full palette of eye treatment, surgery and medication from Bartisch´s time. Two anatomical plates are presented with several layers glued superimposed on each other. A novelty in medical books, here, in this first English edition reproduced exactly the same way.

The book is printed in small folio format, the same size as its original. Ophthalmodouleia contains 546 pages and is indexed.
